Process Piping & Stress Analysis: Main Chlorine Line Design

Due to client NDA commitments, the showcased projects represent only a portion of our work and not the full scope of what we’ve delivered.

Engineering Safety for Engro Company | Port Qasim, Pakistan

Chlorine is unforgiving. In the chemical and petrochemical sectors, handling hazardous fluids requires more than just connecting pipes—it requires a zero-failure mentality. Fluxiss was contracted to execute the specialized Piping Engineering and Stress Analysis for the Main AVGU Chlorine Line at Engro Company’s facility in Port Qasim. Our objective was clear: provide a design that ensures total containment and structural resilience under extreme industrial conditions.

The Challenge: Managing Volatile Fluids in High-Stakes Environments

Designing a chlorine line isn’t a standard routing task. The primary difficulty lies in the fluid’s corrosive nature and the strict safety margins required by international standards. At the Port Qasim site, we had to account for:

  • Environmental Variables: Designing for high-humidity coastal environments which affect external corrosion rates and thermal expansion.
  • Strict Compliance: Adhering to ASME B31.3 Process Piping codes for Category M fluid service—the highest safety tier for lethal substances.
  • Static and Dynamic Loads: Ensuring the system could handle internal pressure surges while remaining stable during potential seismic or high-wind events.

The Solution: Precision Modeling and Stress Validation

We approached this project with a data-first mindset. Using industry-standard tools like CAESAR II and AutoCAD Plant 3D, our team moved beyond basic drafts to create a high-fidelity digital twin of the system.

  1. Detailed Isometric Drafting We produced Isometrics that defined every millimeter of the routing. This included precise slope requirements to prevent liquid pockets and exact material specifications to ensure the alloy grade matched the chemical volatility of the chlorine.
  2. Rigorous Stress Analysis Our engineers conducted a comprehensive stress evaluation. We analyzed the reaction forces at every support point and calculated the allowable displacement to prevent fatigue. This analysis ensured the pipe thickness and support placements were optimized to prevent leaks, even under worst-case scenario pressure spikes.

The Result: A Certified, Safe-to-Operate Chlorine System

The final delivery provided Engro Company with a roadmap for a secure installation. By integrating stress analysis directly into the design phase, we eliminated the need for costly field adjustments during construction.

Project Deliverables Included:

  • Certified Isometric Drawings for construction.
  • Formal Stress Analysis Reports detailing load capacities.
  • Support Design Schematics optimized for vibration and thermal movement.

The outcome was a pipeline system built for longevity and process safety, ensuring that hazardous fluid transport remains invisible to the surrounding environment.
