Tank Riser Piping Design: Everton Stadium Case Study

Due to client NDA commitments, the showcased projects represent only a portion of our work and not the full scope of what we’ve delivered.

Modern stadium infrastructure requires more than just connecting Point A to Point B. When Fluxiss took the lead on the pipe stress analysis for the new Everton Stadium in Liverpool, England, we faced a high-stakes environment where mechanical, domestic, and gas systems had to integrate into a massive, shifting architectural footprint.

Here is how we balanced technical compliance with real-world budget constraints.

The Stadium Challenge: How Do You Pipe a Building That Moves?

The Problem: 120mm of Building Movement

Most people view stadiums as static objects, but they are dynamic structures. This project featured movement joints designed to handle up to 120mm of expansion and contraction. For a rigid piping system, that much movement is a recipe for catastrophic failure or fatigue cracking.

We had to design a system for the tank risers and domestic lines that could “breathe” with the stadium while staying within a strict project timeline and budget. Standard redesigns were too costly, and traditional rigid mounting wasn’t an option.

The Fluxiss Solution: Engineering Natural Flexibility

Our strategy moved away from expensive hardware-heavy solutions. Instead, we prioritized natural flexibility. By utilizing the inherent ability of the pipes to bend and using clever routing, we reduced the overall tension in the system.

  • Expansion Loops & Flexible Joints: We strategically placed loops to absorb the 120mm shifts without stressing the pipe walls.
  • Plant Room Precision: We analyzed the “nerve centers” of the stadium, adding expansion equipment to control thermal growth and anchoring systems to dampen vibration.
  • Nozzle Load Management: We ensured that the force exerted on equipment connections (nozzles) stayed within allowable limits to prevent long-term mechanical wear.

Why This Matters for Your Next Infrastructure Project

The Outcome: Cost-Effective, High-Performance Piping

By choosing natural flexibility over massive structural redesigns, Fluxiss delivered a piping system that met every technical safety standard without blowing the budget. The result is a durable, low-maintenance infrastructure ready for decades of match-day operations.

Whether it’s a massive sports arena or a compact industrial plant room, our goal is the same: preventing failure before it starts.

Expert Insight: A good piping consultant doesn’t just find a technical fix; they find a fix that works for the client’s wallet and the contractor’s schedule.
